Care for your garden plants
To keep your garden plants beautiful, they require some care. You have to protect them against pests, give them guidance when climbing and provide the right nutrients so that they can grow well!
- In the spring, most perennials must be "cleaned up". Cut off all dead stems and remove the dead leaf. A hedge trimmer is an ideal tool for this. Cut ugly perennials just above the ground, they will grow out nicely and healthily. If a perennial does not work in May, then it is most likely dead and you will have to replace the plant for another.
- In the winter you can leave most perennials in their flowerpot, as long as the flowerpot is of course winter-proof. You can protect the perennials in the ground in the winter by cleaning up the border only in the spring. The dead plant parts protect the soil against frost. Spread a layer of compost between perennials in winter or early spring. This is good for the structure of the soil and, moreover, compost retains a lot of moisture.
